About the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most iconic and scenic trekking experiences in Nepal, situated at an impressive altitude of 13,550 ft in the northern Himalayan range. Starting from Banthanti, this trek offers a mesmerising journey through a diverse landscape of terraced rice fields, dense oak and rhododendron forests, and high-altitude alpine terrain, culminating in panoramic views of the towering Annapurna massif.

Traversing the Annapurna Conservation Area, the trail follows the banks of the Modi Khola River and offers trekkers a chance to witness some of the world’s highest peaks ranging between 7,000 and 8,000 meters, including Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Gangapurna. The route is well-regarded not only for its natural beauty but also for its rich cultural encounters with local Gurung and Magar communities, making it both a physical and spiritual journey.

How to Reach Pokhara

By Air:
International travellers can fly to Kathmandu from major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur, and Varanasi. From Kathmandu, a connecting domestic flight to Pokhara takes approximately 25–30 minutes, making it the fastest and most convenient route.

By Road:
Regular bus services operate between Kathmandu and Pokhara, including both local and tourist buses. Green line tourist coaches and other luxury buses depart from the Tourist Bus Station in Kathmandu. You can also reach Pokhara via Sunauli (India–Nepal border) by taking a bus or cab.

By Train:
There is no direct rail service to Pokhara. The nearest railway stations on the Indian side are Gorakhpur, New Jalpaiguri, and Jaynagar. After reaching one of these stations, you can cross into Nepal via Sunauli or Panitanki and take a bus or private transfer to Pokhara via Kathmandu.

Arrival in Pokhara – Gateway to the Annapurna Region

Welcome to Pokhara, famously known as the “City of Lakes” and a starting point for treks into the majestic Annapurna region. Upon arrival, check in to your tea house accommodation and spend the day at leisure.

You may explore the scenic Lakeside area, where you can visit Phewa Lake, Begnas Lake, and Rupa Lake, or stroll through the local markets for souvenirs and traditional crafts.

In the evening, return to your tea house and unwind before the trekking adventure begins.

Transfer to Nayapul & Trek to Ghandruk Village

After breakfast, check out and begin your scenic drive in a private SUV to Nayapul, the starting point of your trek. En route, stop for a brief tea break in Birethanti, a quaint village nestled at the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi Rivers.

Upon arrival at Nayapul, receive a short trail briefing from your trek leader before beginning your trek to Ghandruk. The trail winds along the Modi Khola River, cutting through dense rhododendron and conifer forests, terraced farmlands, and charming hill settlements like Tikhedunga and Ulleri.

As you ascend, enjoy glimpses of snow-covered peaks such as Annapurna South, Macchapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri. Arrive in the traditional Gurung village of Ghandruk, known for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking mountain views.

Check in to your tea house and rest for the night.

Trek from Ghandruk to Sinuwa

Start your day with stunning views of the Annapurna range from Ghandruk. After breakfast and check-out, begin your trek toward Sinuwa, passing through rich forests and traditional Gurung villages.

Descend through terraced farmlands and charming villages like Kimche, where you'll witness local life and livestock along the way. Continue trekking through dense oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forests as you approach Chhomrong, a scenic Gurung village offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

From Chhomrong, begin a steep descent to Chhomrong Khola, cross the river, and climb up towards Sinuwa, experiencing a noticeable change in climate and vegetation as you ascend.

Upon reaching Sinuwa, check into your tea house and rest overnight amidst the tranquil Himalayan surroundings.

Trek from Sinuwa to Deurali

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast and check-out from Sinuwa. Set off on your trek toward Deurali, passing through the enchanting forests of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail meanders alongside the Modi Khola River, taking you through dense rhododendron and bamboo groves, alive with the chirping of Himalayan birds and the sound of nearby streams.

As you ascend, pass the peaceful Dovan Village, followed by a steady climb to the famous Hinku Cave, a natural rock shelter surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Throughout the day, enjoy panoramic glimpses of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

The final leg involves a few steep sections and rocky terrain before you reach Deurali, nestled in a high alpine zone. On arrival, check in to your tea house and rest for the night.

Trek from Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC)

Begin your trek along the rugged trail following the Modi Khola River, gradually ascending towards Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC).

Enter the awe-inspiring Annapurna Sanctuary, a high glacial basin surrounded by towering peaks.

Traverse through rocky trails and steep sections, passing through sparse vegetation and glacial moraines.

Downhill Trek from Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo Village

Trek from Jhinu Village to Nayapul | Transfer to Pokhara

Start trekking along a scenic downhill trail, occasionally interspersed with short ascents.

Cross the Modi Khola River, accompanied by the soothing sound of flowing water and birdsong.

Pass through Syauli Bazaar, a charming village that offers panoramic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and surrounding peaks.

Continue the gradual descent until you arrive at Nayapul (3,510 ft)—marking the end of your trekking journey.

From Nayapul, enjoy a comfortable SUV transfer back to Pokhara, transitioning from mountain serenity to urban vibrance.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, check-in at your tea house or hotel and relax after completing your trek.
