Itinerary – Manali To Ladakh Tour

Day 1 | Arrive Manali/Solang

Arrive Manali. Staying overnight in Solang helps in better acclimatization than staying in Manali. Enjoy the beautiful views of the lower Himalayan Region and apply for permits to go to and across Rohtang Pass.

Day 2 | Manali/Solang Valley to Keylong/Jispa

It is about a 6-7 hours drive depending on the breaks you take in between. Staying at Jispa is a better option than staying at Keylong because you get to experience the alluring beauty of the majestic Himalayas with the Bhagu River running just beside the Himalayas. Avoid sleeping in Sarchu while going to Leh from Manali as by that time your body is not fully acclimatized and acute mountain sickness might hit you.

Day 3 | Keylong/Jispa to Baralacha La-Leh

It is approximately an 11-12 hours drive depending on the breaks you take in between. Leave from Keylong/Jispa wherever you had spent your last night early in the morning so that you reach Leh timely in the evening. During a bike trip to Leh Ladakh from Manali, you will spot a few small lakes like Suraj Tal, Deepak Tal. On your way to Leh you will cross Baralacha La, Lachulung La, Nakee La, Taglang La passes. Stay overnight at Leh.

Day 4 | Exploring and Sightseeing in Leh Acclimatization

For this day, you can explore and do sightseeing in Leh. Meanwhile, your body will get time to adjust according to the change in weather conditions because of the rise in altitude. Apply online for Inner Line Permits for sightseeing in Leh(Changthang Valley or Batalik) and you can pay the required fees too. Make sure that the permits get stamped at Tourist Information Centre or Leh DC Office.

Day 5 | Leh – Khardung La – Diskit / Hunder

For this day it will be about a 5-6 hours drive to Nubra Valley depending on the breaks you take Khardung La and other spots. Khardung La is the highest motorable pass as claimed to make it a point to enjoy a cup of soup or a cup of tea at the Army Canteen. Diskit has monasteries with the tallest lord Buddha statue and Hunder has sand dunes and Bactrian camel safari, these are famous tourist attractions. Stay overnight either at Diskit or Hunder.

Day 6 | Hunder / Diskit – Sumur – Panamik – Sumur – Khardung La – Leh

Start early from Hunder/Diskit and head towards Sumur. Sumur has a famous monastery if you have time make sure you visit this place. After this head towards the small village, Panamik is quite known for hot water springs. Head back to Leh via the same route you took to reach Nubra Valley. Overnight stay at Leh after 7-9 hours of a drive depending on the number of spots you covered on your way.

Day 7 | Leh – Hemis Monastery – Chang La Pass – Pangong Tso Lake

Now start from early in the morning and make sure that you cover either of Hemis, Thicksey, and Shey on your way to Pangong Tso. After a drive of approximately 5-6 hours, overnight stay at Pangong Tso.

Day 8 | Pangong Tso Lake to Leh

Take the same route back to Leh and if you did not cover Shey Palace previously you may do the same today. Overnight Stay at Leh.

Day 9 | Leh to Tso Moriri

This day’s journey is going to be a bit difficult as you will be traveling on treacherous roads. Head back on Manali Leh highway until Upshi and take the diversion towards Chumthang. Road until Sumdo will be a mix of good and bad but after Sumdo it will pretty much be a dirt trail all the way until Karzok. Cover Karzok Monastery and overnight stay at Karzok or Tso Moriri after 8-10 hours of drive.

Day 10 | Tso Moriri to Leh

Wake up early in the morning and spend some time by the lake. Come back via Tso Kar and Manali – Leh Highway to Leh. Overnight stay at Leh after 10-11 hours of drive.

Day 11 | Leh

Spend some time in Leh. Depending upon your likings you can either rest, shop or interact with the locals there and get to know about their culture. Overnight at Leh.

Day 12 | Leh – Lamayuru – Kargil

Start your journey early in the morning to Leh via Leh Srinagar Highway. See the magnetic hill, Zanskar river confluence, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, monasteries at Mulbekh and Lamayuru, and Lunar Landscapes. It will be around 10-12 hours of a drive if you cover the places mentioned above. Overnight stay at Kargil.

Day 13 | Kargil-Srinagar

Travel on Srinagar-Leh Highway and enjoy the vistas en route. You can have lunch at Sonamarg. Visit Dal Lake in Srinagar and make it a point to stay in a houseboat(highly recommended).

Day 14 | Srinagar -Jammu

Enjoy the mesmerizing beauty on your way to Jammu via Patnitop. It will be 8-10 hours of journey.

Day 15 | Jammu- Delhi

Now is the time to get back home and it will be mostly plain areas. Around 11-12 hours of a drive depending on the breaks you take in between.
