    Acute mountain sickness is a common problem that happens at high altitudes due to scarcity of oxygen. No matter how fit you are, it can happen to anyone of any age and fitness level. Make sure to take all the precautions. Keep yourself hydrated and avoid smoking and drinking till you are fully acclimatized. Do not overexert yourself and also carry prescribed medicine for AMS.
  • Availability of medical facilities
    Remember that medical help is not a call away in Ladakh. It is better to note down the best district hospitals in Ladakh so that you know where to go in case of any medical emergency. It is advisable not to plan your trip to Ladakh if you already have any medical symptoms.
  • Mobile phone connectivity
    Only postpaid connections work in Ladakh. So consider carrying a BSNL or Airtel postpaid sim for connectivity in Ladakh. Connection is not available in certain places like Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso, make all the calls and messages before traveling there.
  • Carry photocopies of necessary documents
    Don’t forget to carry photocopies of your Aadhar Card, Pan Card and Passport. If you are planning for a bike trip, keep your vehicle Registration Papers, PUC, Insurance Paper and Driving License. If you are not an Indian citizen, carry your passport and the permit you received from the government to travel to Ladakh.’
