Overview
Nestled at an elevation of 1,400 meters in the serene Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Bir is renowned globally as one of the best destinations for paragliding. The village serves as the base for flights launching from Billing, located 14 km uphill at an altitude of 2,400 meters. This picturesque take-off site hosts major paragliding competitions every year during October and November, including the Paragliding World Cup in 2015. From Billing, experienced gliders often soar as far as Dharamshala, Mandi, and even Manali.
Beyond adventure, Bir is steeped in spiritual and cultural significance. The lower part of the village, known as Tibetan Colony, is a hub for the Tibetan exile community. The area is dotted with Buddhist monasteries and meditation centers, making it a peaceful retreat for spiritual seekers. Many international visitors come here to participate in Buddhist courses, retreats, and volunteer programs.

After your thrilling adventure, head to the Bir local market for some shopping and café hopping – don't miss out on the authentic Tibetan cuisine.
You can also rent a mountain bike (at your own cost) and explore nearby monasteries like Sherab Ling or Chokling Monastery.
