Meghalaya

Overview

Meghalaya, in Northeast India, is a land of stunning natural beauty defined by its lush green landscapes and heavy rainfall. It’s home to the world’s wettest places like Cherrapunji, which feeds countless waterfalls (e.g., Nohkalikai Falls) and dense forests.

The state is famous for its unique living root bridges, including the impressive Double Decker, and extensive limestone cave systems like Mawsmai. The crystal-clear Umngot River in Dawki is a major highlight.

Culturally, Meghalaya is shaped by matrilineal tribal communities (Khasi, Garo, Jaintia) with rich traditions. The capital, Shillong (“Scotland of the East”), offers colonial charm, while Mawlynnong is celebrated as “Asia’s Cleanest Village.”

Meghalaya offers a unique blend of untouched nature, adventure, and vibrant indigenous cultures.
