Day 1: Srinagar to Sonamarg (Shitkadi) – Acclimatize | 2730 meters | 3-Hour Drive

Morning: Arrival in Srinagar

  • Arrival in Srinagar: After landing in Srinagar, you’ll be greeted by your trek team and begin your journey towards the base camp. The drive takes around 3 hours, leading you to the picturesque town of Sonamarg, specifically the Shitkadi Base Camp.

The Scenic Drive

  • Kashmir Valley Beauty: The drive itself is a feast for the eyes. As you travel, you’ll pass through charming villages, lush farmlands, and winding roads that cut between two majestic mountain ranges. The Sindh River flows beside you, its ever-present rush adding to the serenity of the journey.
  • Trek Briefing: During the drive, your trek leader will brief you about the trek ahead, safety measures, gear requirements, and provide insights into the routes you’ll be taking. This is a great time to ask any questions you may have about the trek.

Arrival at Shitkadi Base Camp

  • Acclimatization: Once you arrive at Shitkadi, which lies at an altitude of 2,730 meters, you’ll be encouraged to take it easy and let your body adjust to the higher altitude. Acclimatization is key to a successful trek in the mountains.
  • Relax and Explore: Depending on how you’re feeling, you may have time to explore the immediate surroundings or simply relax in the camp. Evening: Welcome and Bonfire

First Stop: Tabletop

  • The first stop on your journey is Tabletop, a beautiful plateau nestled amidst dense forests. This scenic spot offers a broad, panoramic view of the Sonamarg valley and the surrounding Thajiwas Mountain Range.
  • From here, you’ll have a chance to glimpse the Amarnath Peak, one of the famous peaks in the region, adding to the majestic views.

Ascending to Nichnai

  • The first major stop will be Nichnai Pass, which comes after crossing the river. As you ascend toward the pass, the views begin to unfold. The climb is steady but can be challenging in parts, especially as you approach the ridgeline. Be sure to take regular water breaks to stay hydrated, and maintain a steady pace while ensuring your footing is secure.

Steep Climb to Gadsar Pass

Trunkhol Meadow and Shepherd’s Houses

  • As you continue through Trunkhol, you’ll come across the government hut and a few shepherd’s houses, built with brick and mud. It’s a chance to take in the peaceful surroundings before continuing your descent.

Descent Through the Forest

  • After passing through Trunkhol meadow, the trail leads you into a dense forest. You’ll walk for about half an hour through the forest before reaching the Butsheri Top, from where the real descent begins.

Steep Descent to Naranag

  • From Butsheri Top, the trail takes a three-hour descent toward Naranag.
