Day 1: Kathgodam to Lohajung
– Altitude: 7,662 ft
– Stay: Guesthouse
– Drive: 210 km (Approx. 10 hours)
– Route: Kathgodam – Bheem Tal – Almora – Kausani – Gwaldam – Dewal – Lohajung
– Details: Depart from Kathgodam at 6:00 AM. On arrival at Lohajung, relax and explore the local market. Network is available here.
Day 2: Lohajung to Didna Village
– Trek: 6.5 km
– Altitude: 7,662 ft to 8,045 ft
– Stay: Village homestay
– Details:
– Descend gradually to Ruan Bagad Bridge (4.5 km).
– Refill water at Ruan Bagad from Neel Ganga river.
– Steep ascent (2 km) to Didna Village.
– No local market but network available.
– Reach Didna before lunch.
Day 3: Didna Village to Ali Bugyal
– Trek: 10.5 km
– Altitude: 8,045 ft to 11,320 ft
– Stay: Tent
– Details:
– Gradual ascent through oak and rhododendron forests, followed by alpine meadows.
– First half of the trek is a steep ascent, second half is more gradual.
– Tolpani is the last point for drinking water.
– Reach Ali Bugyal by late afternoon.
Day 4: Ali Bugyal to Patar Nachauni via Bedni Bugyal and Ghora Lotani
– Trek: 7 km
– Altitude: 11,320 ft to 12,818 ft

– Easiest day of the trek.
– Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal (2 km gradual ascent).
– Bedni Bugyal to Ghora Lotani (4 km gradual ascent).
– Ghora Lotani to Patar Nachauni (1 km gradual descent).
– Acclimatize at Ghora Lotani; wear proper clothing as AMS may occur here.
Day 5: Patar Nachauni to Bhagwabasa via Kalu Vinayak
– Trek: 4 km
– Altitude: 12,818 ft to 14,117 ft
– Stay: Tent
– Details:
– Gradual ascent to Kalu Vinayak Temple (1.5 km) followed by a steep ascent.
– Descent to Bhagwabasa (1.5 km) is tricky, especially in May and June due to snow.
Day 6: Bhagwabasa to Roopkund and back to Bedni Bugyal
– Trek: 10 km
– Altitude: 14,117 ft to 15,755 ft
– Stay: Tent
– Details:
– Early morning start (4:00 AM).
– Challenging ascent to Roopkund Lake (3 km).
– Reach Bhagwabasa by lunchtime.
– In August, September, and October, you can see the skeletons; in May and June, expect snow but no skeletons.
– Return to Patar Nachauni by evening.
Day 7: Patar Nachauni to Lohajung via Bedni and Wan
– Trek: 15 km
– Altitude: 12,818 ft to 7,662 ft
– Stay: Guesthouse
– Details:
– Descend via Ghora Lotani, Bedni Bugyal, Doliya Dhar, Ghaeroli Patal, and Neel Ganga.
– From Wan Village, take a 45-minute drive back to Lohajung.
– Reach Lohajung by evening.
Day 8: Lohajung to Kathgodam
– Drive: 210 km (Approx. 10 hours)
– Details:
– Drive back to Kathgodam.
– On the way, stop at Kausani to buy herbal tea and souvenirs.
– Reach Kathgodam by 6:00 PM.
This itinerary takes you through diverse landscapes, including alpine meadows, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks, culminating in the spectacular Roopkund Lake at an altitude of 16,499 feet.
