Starting from the gateway to the Eastern Himalayas, the journey gradually takes you from the plains into the dramatic mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. As you ride deeper into the region, lush forests give way to towering mountains, cascading waterfalls and winding Himalayan roads. Every stretch of the route offers a new landscape and a new adventure.
One of the major highlights of the Tawang Bike Trip is the legendary Sela Pass, one of the most spectacular high-altitude passes in Arunachal Pradesh. Riding through the pass and witnessing the beautiful Sela Lake surrounded by snow-covered mountains is an experience that stays with you long after the journey ends.
The ride continues towards Tawang, a remote Himalayan town famous for its breathtaking surroundings and deep-rooted Buddhist heritage. The magnificent Tawang Monastery, perched high above the valley, is one of the most important attractions of the region and provides an opportunity to experience the unique culture and spirituality of the Monpa people.
The adventure doesn't end at Tawang. Depending on the itinerary, permits, weather and road conditions, the expedition can take you towards some of the most fascinating locations in the region, including Bum La Pass, Madhuri Lake, Jaswant Garh and other scenic Himalayan viewpoints. The ideal seasons for a Tawang Bike Trip are generally April to May and October to November, when the weather is more suitable for motorcycle travel and mountain views are often spectacular. Winter can bring heavy snow and freezing conditions, while the monsoon months can bring rain, landslides and difficult road conditions.

Arrive in Guwahati, the gateway to your Tawang motorcycle adventure. Meet the BackpackClan team and fellow riders before getting ready for the journey ahead. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel or explore a little of Guwahati. The day is kept easy so you can rest, complete any necessary trip formalities and prepare for the exciting ride into Arunachal Pradesh.
The adventure begins as we leave Guwahati and ride towards Bomdila , gradually entering the spectacular landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh. The route takes you through changing scenery, winding mountain roads, forests and beautiful Himalayan valleys. As the altitude increases, the landscape transforms from the plains into the rugged Eastern Himalayas. After approximately 240 km of riding, we reach Bomdila, where we check in and relax after the day's ride.
Today is one of the most spectacular riding days of the expedition as we head towards Tawang . The route takes us deeper into the mountains, with dramatic valleys, waterfalls and winding roads along the way. We cross the magnificent Sela Pass , one of the major highlights of the journey, and continue towards Tawang through some of Arunachal Pradesh's most breathtaking landscapes. After approximately 220 km, we arrive in Tawang and check into our accommodation.
Today is dedicated to exploring the high-altitude surroundings of Tawang. After breakfast, we ride towards Bum La Pass , a strategically important mountain pass located near the India–China border. The journey offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and high-altitude terrain. After returning towards Tawang, we explore some of the region's major attractions, including Sangetsar Lake (Madhuri Lake) and other local sightseeing points, subject to weather, road conditions and required permissions. Return to Tawang for an overnight stay.
Today's ride takes us away from the usual tourist route towards the remote and beautiful Mago Valley . We ride through rugged Himalayan terrain and experience the raw, untouched landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh. The route includes Gongkar La Lake , a spectacular high-altitude attraction surrounded by mountains. After exploring the region, we continue towards Jung , enjoying the changing landscapes and remote mountain roads along the way. Overnight stay in Jung.
Begin the day by visiting the impressive Jung Waterfall , one of the most scenic attractions near Tawang. After spending some time at the waterfall, we continue our motorcycle journey towards Dirang . The route offers a beautiful combination of mountain valleys, forests, rivers and winding roads. As we descend gradually from the higher elevations, the landscape becomes greener and the climate more pleasant. Arrive in Dirang and spend the evening relaxing in this picturesque Himalayan town.
Today we leave the mountains behind and ride towards Kaziranga , one of India's most famous wildlife destinations. The journey takes us from the Himalayan foothills towards the plains of Assam, offering a dramatic change in scenery along the route. After approximately 250 km, we reach Kaziranga and check into our accommodation. The evening can be spent relaxing or exploring the surroundings, depending on the arrival time.
The final riding day takes us from Kaziranga back to Guwahati. Enjoy the last stretch of the journey as we travel through the landscapes of Assam before reaching Guwahati. After approximately 250 km, the Tawang Bike Trip comes to an end. On arrival in Guwahati, the BackpackClan team assists with the trip conclusion and drop-off, leaving you with unforgettable memories of an epic motorcycle adventure through Arunachal Pradesh.
