When winter arrives, Spiti Valley transforms into a world of snow, silence and raw adventure. The familiar landscapes of summer disappear beneath a thick blanket of snow, roads become challenging trails, and the valley settles into a slower, more isolated rhythm.
For the people of Spiti, winter is a way of life. Villages prepare for the harsh months ahead, families gather around bukhari heaters, and the pace of everyday life slows down as temperatures plunge. For an explorer, however, this is when Spiti becomes truly extraordinary.
Our 4×4 Winter Spiti Expedition is designed to experience this remote Himalayan valley when very few travellers venture this far. Instead of simply driving from one destination to another, you’ll navigate snow-covered roads, frozen valleys, high mountain passes and rugged terrain, with a capable 4×4 taking you deeper into the winter wilderness.
The journey takes you through iconic Himalayan villages like Langza and Komic, where ancient monasteries, traditional homes and snow-covered landscapes create a setting that feels almost untouched by time. As you climb higher, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic—frozen streams, towering mountains, empty roads and vast white valleys stretching as far as the eye can see.
And then comes the night.
Far away from city lights and pollution, winter skies over Spiti reveal an incredible canvas of stars, with the Milky Way rising above the frozen valley. Sitting beside a warm bukhari after a day on the trail, surrounded by mountains and silence, is an experience that a conventional road trip simply cannot offer.
This expedition is not about ticking destinations off a list. It is about the journey, the uncertainty, the terrain and the feeling of being somewhere truly remote.
Every kilometre will challenge the vehicle. Every turn will reveal a new landscape. Every night will remind you how small we are against the Himalayas.
No ordinary roads. No ordinary road trip.
Just snow, mountains, machines and the wild winter soul of Spiti.
Experience the expedition.**
Spiti – The Land That Pauses in Winter When winter arrives, Spiti disappears beneath snow and the valley enters a different world. This is a 4×4 expedition through snow-covered valleys, remote villages, frozen landscapes and some of the highest inhabited places on Earth. From Langza and Komic to the frozen Spitian wilderness, every kilometre tests the machine, the road and your spirit. No ordinary roads. No ordinary journey. Temperatures in winter drop between −10∘C during the day to −25∘C or lower at night, so heavy thermal layering and sub-zero down jackets are essential.
No, Rohtang and Kunzum Passes remain closed due to heavy snow; the expedition operates exclusively via the Shimla–Kinnaur–Kalpa–Kaza route.
Water pipes freeze in winter, so dry/dry-pit toilets or warm bucket water are used at homestays, and power cuts are frequent (power banks and headlamps are mandatory).
Road closures due to natural calamities (landslides, heavy snow) are beyond operator control; alternative routes/stays are arranged, but additional costs incurred are borne by participants.
Yes, most Winter Spiti batches consist of solo travelers, small groups, and couples sharing homestays.
